That's how people actually state anniversaries, and it's what milestone triggers (like the 7-year itch or a 10-year work watch) are measured against.

Total Days for Context

Alongside the years-months-days breakdown, the total day count is a fun number — "we've been together 2,340 days" hits differently than "6 years." It's also useful for fraction-of-year math: divide total days by 365.25 to get a decimal years figure if you need it for a form or calculation.

Next Milestone Countdown

Half the point of tracking an anniversary is anticipating the next one. Once you know where you are today, the next milestone — the next whole year, the 1,000-day mark, the 10-year mark — is a countdown away. Knowing "87 days until our 7-year anniversary" turns a vague future date into something you can plan a celebration around.

Edge Cases: Month Length and Leap Days

Two small wrinkles. If your start date is the 31st of a month, the monthly anniversary lands on the last day of shorter months (a June 31st doesn't exist, so it becomes June 30). And if you started on February 29, your anniversary only exists in leap years — in non-leap years, you pick February 28 or March 1, the same rule as leap-day birthdays.
